Why the map pack is important

Getting found is worth more than getting admired.

  • On a local search, Google puts three businesses on a map above everything else. Those three get about 33% of the clicks. You’re probably already on Google. The problem is where you rank. Fourth place is closer to fortieth than to third.
  • $0 What those spots cost. Google doesn’t sell them, so a competitor with a bigger budget can’t outbid you for one.
  • 39 Towns in Rhode Island, each its own separate race. Ranking where you’re parked doesn’t rank you one town over.
  • Someone who finds you on Google costs you nothing per click, keeps coming after you stop paying for ads, and would otherwise have called the shop down the road.
  • Most websites are built to look at. Yours is built to be found, and to put jobs on your calendar.
A real Google results page for the search roofer near me in Rhode Island. On the left, a list of roofing companies: a sponsored listing at the top, then three more, each with a star rating, a review count, years in business, a town, opening hours, a phone number and Website and Directions buttons. On the right, a map of southern Rhode Island around Exeter, North Kingstown and Kingston with red pins marking each business, and Google's map data attribution in the bottom corner.

This is a real Google search, not a drawing of one. Somebody types roofer near me, and this is the answer: a short list of local businesses pinned to a map, sitting above the ordinary blue links. Four entries, and they did not all get there the same way.
  • The top one is a paid ad. It is marked Sponsored, it costs money on every click, and it disappears the day the card stops.
  • The three under it are free. Google does not sell those places, so nobody can outbid you for one. They are earned, and earning them is the work.

The spot at the top is rented. The three underneath are owned.

A live Google result captured in August 2026. Google’s listing and Google’s numbers, not ours, and not a ranking we produced.

Nobody can promise you one of those three spots, us included. We do the work that earns one, and show you every four weeks whether it’s working.

This is what the call actually shows you.

Six panels from one run of our visibility checker. Fifteen minutes, on your screen, while you watch.

Every panel below is a sample readout with sample competitor names, not a customer’s audit.

Google map rankings
Sample Google map ranking readout. A ten by ten grid of 100 map pins covering about 13.5 miles of Rhode Island, from Scituate across Providence and Warwick to Bristol. Four green pins marked 1 sit at the centre where the business reaches the top three. A ring of amber pins numbered 7 to 9 surrounds them. Everything beyond is red, marked X or 19 and 21, meaning the business does not show up. Two grey pins marked with a question mark returned no data. Summary tiles read: 4 top three, 20 ranked four to ten, 74 not showing, 100 points checked.
Sample readout
Red means invisible. Each pin is a spot on the map and its number is where the business ranks when someone standing there searches. This sample is top three in 4 areas, ranked four to ten in 20, and nowhere at all in 74. Found on its own street, gone two towns over.
The review gap
Sample review gap readout. The headline reads you need 172 more reviews to match the category leader. A table lists four businesses with sample names: the leader at 4.8 stars and 213 reviews, a second at 4.6 and 168, a third at 4.5 and 96, and the subject business marked YOU at 4.7 stars and 41 reviews.
Sample readout
Rating is not the problem. Volume is. This sample business is rated 4.7, higher than two of the three shops beating it, and still loses, because it has 41 reviews against the leader’s 213. That is the 172-review gap, and closing it is the part we run for you. Sample data and sample competitor names, not a customer’s audit.
Keyword opportunity
Sample keyword opportunity readout, cropped to the data columns. A table of eight search terms with monthly search volume and current rank. Emergency plumber, 720 searches, ranked number 8. Water heater repair, 480, not ranking. Plumber near me, 390, ranked number 12. Drain cleaning, 260, ranked number 4. Sump pump installation, 170, not ranking. Burst pipe repair, 140, ranked number 6. Gas line repair, 90, not ranking. Bathroom plumbing, 70, ranked number 9.

Eight searches buyers are running. Three you do not appear in at all. In this sample the business is nowhere on water heater repair (480 a month), sump pump installation (170) and gas line repair (90), and sits at #8 or worse on three more. Every one of those is a job going to whoever did show up. Cropped to the data. The live tool puts a button on each row to map that keyword across your towns.
Profile audit
Sample profile audit readout. The heading says the business profile is missing what competitors show: business hours listed and photos on the profile. A table compares seven profile fields against a sample competitor. Star rating 4.7 against 4.8. Review count 41 against 213. Website listed, yes for both. Phone number listed, yes for both. Business hours listed, no against yes. Photos on the profile, no against yes. Primary category set to plumber for both.
Sample readout

Same trade, same town, one profile actually filled in. Line by line against the shop beating it, this sample matches on website, phone and category, and loses on the two that take an afternoon to fix: no hours listed and no photos. Then it loses again on volume, 41 reviews against 213.
AI search visibility
Sample AI search visibility readout. The heading says that when people ask AI for the best plumbing company in the town, the business is not mentioned but competitors are. It shows the question that was asked, then two rows. ChatGPT is marked not mentioned and named two competitors instead. Perplexity is marked not mentioned and named one competitor instead.
Sample readout

Swipe the card sideways to read the rest.

People ask ChatGPT for a plumber now. This panel puts the question a buyer would actually type to the answer engines, records which businesses each one names back, and checks whether yours is on the list. It is the one place you can be losing work with no way to notice: nothing in your Google account reports an answer you were left out of.
Local search audit
Sample local search audit readout, cropped to the scorecard. Three tiles read 3 passing, 3 needs work, 2 missing. Then eight checks. Pass, shows in the Google map pack, ranked number 2 for the main search. Pass, strong star rating, 4.7 stars. Fair, competitive review count, 41 against 213 for the leader. Fair, owner replies to reviews, 34 percent of recent reviews. Pass, fresh recent reviews, newest 23 days ago. Fair, business hours listed, no. Gap, photos on the profile, no. Gap, named by AI search, AI names competitors not you.
Sample readout

Swipe the card sideways to read the rest.

Eight checks, scored. This sample passes 3, needs work on 3, and is missing 2 outright. It is the one-page version of everything above: where the map pack, the reviews, the profile and the AI answers each stand, and which of them is costing money this week. Cropped to the scorecard.

What you get

The website is the thing you can see, so it gets all the attention. It’s maybe a fifth of the work. The rest is what puts you in front of somebody who’s looking for you right now and doesn’t know you exist.

Rhody Reviews, Handled For You

A page for every service, in every town

Not one page per town. A page for each service you offer in each town you cover, because that’s how somebody actually searches. Google can’t show you for work your site never mentions.

Local Services Ads, applied for
These sit above the map results and above regular Google ads, with a verified checkmark next to your name. You pay per lead, not per click. You have to apply first, and Google decides who gets in. The $350 gets your paperwork together, gets the application in, and then runs the leads once you’re approved.
Your ad budget is separate. It goes on your own card, straight to Google. We never touch it and we never mark it up.
How the application works
Google decides who gets approved, not us. We’ll tell you straight what your odds look like first, and if they say no, you pay the one $350 application charge and nothing after.
$597 every 4 weeks. The one-time setup fee isn't refundable once the site is built. Cancel anytime and your service runs to the end of your current 4-week cycle, then stops.
